Manufacturers continue to make efforts to slash carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and now Citroen has introduced two new greener power plants to its C5 range. 16V 143hp unit; and a new 2.0HDi 16V 160hp diesel that replaces the 2.2HDi 16V 173hp engine. The saloon version of the Citroen C5 starts at £18,195 on the road.

As we edge closer to the eagerly anticipated launched of the Citroen C3 supermini at the Frankfurt Motor Show, more details have emerged about the best-seller. Indeed the HDi DPFS 90 diesel version, which will be available from launch, will be the first full production Citroen to emit less than 100g/km of CO2 with emission levels of 99g/km.

More powerful, and yet with fewer emissions and better fuel economy - that’s the achievement of Citroen’s advanced 3.0HDi V6 240hp engine, which will be introduced into the C5 and C6 ranges later this summer. The engine also comes with a diesel particulate filter which helps to drive CO2 emissions down to 195g/km.

Can you also not leverage your other brand Citroen? We have the flexibility, we are still committed to our net carbon zero goal by 2038, so I’m going to be leveraging some of the platforms but localising them. If I sell 1,000 Jeeps with a current portfolio, and about 2,500 Citroens, I’m happy.

Drive Electric analysis done in March showed the reduction in emissions of vehicles imported since the policy came into effect will save more than 2m tonnes of emissions over the lives of those vehicles, and $100m a year in petrol and diesel. For those who do move to EV, they will find their running costs substantially lower.
