The general principle for bidirectional charging is EVs can either feed power from a charged vehicle back into the house (vehicle-to-home or V2H) or interact with the electric grid itself (vehicle-to-grid or V2G). Even so, world events are putting wind in the sails for backup power. Not so independent.

Better Place is building stations in San Francisco, Hawaii, Israel, and Denmark to swap out 1,000 pound batteries in a car wash type set up. Duh, heres our $40K volt, buy it please? The true impact of electric vehicles should consider the make-up of the power grids where these cars will be used. They will not meet my needs.
