BMW is hoping to take some of the shine off of Tesla’s crown with a new incentive that gives buyers a $1,000 discount to buy one of its new EVs. That said, BMW’s EVs are not cheap, so the incentives should be a welcome move for hopeful buyers.

Only available in the US beginning in March of 2021, the hot-selling Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) was apparently the top-selling PHEV in the US last year. According to an industry source the Wrangler traditionally has a fairly low percentage of its customers choosing to lease over buying.

Starting in 2016, the Swedish brand has included plug-in hybrid versions of pretty much every new vehicle it sells in the US. . It’s called the XC40 Recharge, and the earliest versions aren’t cheap, priced from about $55,000 including delivery. Volvo and its Chinese parent Geely are very serious about selling cars that plug in.

And oil only seems cheap. Its impacts are increasingly unaffordable.
