The idea from day one was hydrogen fuel cell-based drivetrains, but it’s hydrogen-electric, so you have to build the electric part. But that means that I can’t buy from just any supplier.

The stations will allow the fleets to lower their costs by buying fuel in bulk, access federal motor fuel excise tax credits, refuel at the times most convenient to their schedules, and model successful use of propane to nearby peers. To support the vehicles, 35 propane refueling stations will be constructed. Total DOE award: $12,633,080.

They wanted to buy one or two trucks and test them for several years, and startup companies couldn’t stay alive that long.

You can buy it now. How many millions have they spent to develop a vehicle that you cant buy, that no one is prepared to service and that most Americans wouldnt want if you gave it to them? Give me a vanilla version without the revenue generating doodads and Ill buy one or two. It would, however make the vehicle a huge success.

Better Place is building stations in San Francisco, Hawaii, Israel, and Denmark to swap out 1,000 pound batteries in a car wash type set up. The Renault-Nissan Alliance is building fleet charging stations in Portland and Phoenix. There are choices for 110 volt versus 220 volt, slow versus quick charges, and solar options.
