Toyota has released more detail on the powertrain of the new Lexus CT 200h premium compact dedicated hybrid ( earlier post ); Toyota plans to introduce it to the US market in early 2011. To improve cold weather fuel economy and cabin comfort, the engine heat management system combines a heat recovery system with an electric water pump.

The Karma, a luxury four-passenger sedan, can be recharged by plugging it in; it can then be driven on power from a battery alone for 50 miles.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Shifted earlier focus to all-electric Focus in 2011 with Magna. Company says its focusing on gasoline and hydrogen. Plans Saturn Vue PHEV-10.

The Volt is, and always has been, more than than an electric car. GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. Wired Home Subscribe Sections Cars 2.0 But it is a price that must be paid, and GM should be commended for remaining committed to the Volt. Thats short-sighted.
