A sensor network that could monitor an entire forest, or a gas pipeline, or any critical infrastructure, would need thousands or even millions of sensors—and batteries.

Energy storage technologies represent an alternative to traditional grid management using generation assets such as natural gas peakers to balance the grid by adding power to it. This means that we will need 3x more battery capacity investments to meet 2020 EV demand. Electric grids require balance in order to function properly.
