In November 2009, Capstone introduced a prototype range-extended electric supercar using one of its 30 kW C30 microturbines as the generator unit. Capstone microturbines can run on diesel, bio-diesel, ethanol, methanol, jet fuel, propane and compressed natural gas. Other micro-turbine range extenders.

For the time being, electric vehicles that combine battery power with a range-extending generator may be the best solution for those who can get by on battery power alone for most driving--but still sometimes need the range of a conventional gas or diesel-powered vehicle.

This agreement combines the Cargotec USA Kalmar chassis with Balqon’s electric drivetrain ( earlier post ) and Vision’s hydrogen fuel cell range-extender. kW fuel cell stack, and Li-ion battery pack. Vision is a developer of hydrogen fuel cell/electric hybrid powered vehicles and turnkey hydrogen fueling systems.
