At the end of January, Mercedes-Benz will launch the F-CELL World Drive— a circumnavigation of the world with the series-produced fuel cell vehicle, the B-Class F-CELL. Such an undertaking would not be possible, using purely battery-powered electric vehicles.

According to a new study published by the ifo Institue Center for Economic Studies (CESifo) in Germany, EVs will barely help cut CO 2 emissions in the country over the coming years, as the introduction of electric vehicles does not necessarily lead to a reduction in CO 2 emissions from road traffic given the current power generation mix.

Hydrogen-powered vehicles can now refill their tanks at the OMV service station in Metzingen. The new hydrogen station is located at Auchtertstraße 19 in Metzingen. The Metzingen site is one of these stations, and will improve hydrogen supply in the Stuttgart metropolitan region. —Norbert Barthle.

The first Mercedes-Benz battery-electric eCitaro bus ( earlier post ) will be delivered at the end of the year and will go into practical operations in the context of a customer-oriented driving test. Series production of the Mercedes-Benz Citaro with all-electric drive will then begin at the end of the year at the Mannheim bus plant.

Hermes and Mercedes-Benz Vans have agreed on a wide-ranging strategic partnership to electrify the courier service’s vehicle fleet. The companies are to start using battery-electric vehicles in the logistics provider’s normal operations in a pilot phase in Stuttgart and Hamburg in early 2018.

At this year’s IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Mercedes-Benz is presenting preproduction models of the new Mercedes-Benz GLC F‑CELL ( earlier post ). kg of hydrogen on board, the preproduction model produces enough energy for a total range of up to 437 km (271.5 kWh (net) lithium-ion battery (13.8 kWh gross).
