The first series-manufactured automobiles for the Chinese market are scheduled to come off the production line from 2024 onwards in Changchun. Audi is further expanding its presence in China through a second partnership. The future series version will be produced in Europe and China, and is intended for sales worldwide.

Automobile pollutants are one of the largest contributors to climate changing emissions. The vehicle will be recharged at night, plugged into a standard home outlet. Ford , Chrysler , Volvo Nissan , Subaru and VW have all indicated they will be bringing plug-in hybrids to the showroom floor for sale within the next few years.

Bolstered by production in China for that key market, soon to be augmented by new plants in Austin, Texas, and Germany, Tesla does not appear to be looking back, but if it did would continue to see other automakers in its rearview mirror. Tesla found the volume (after some initial stumbles) that has moved the company toward fiscal stability.

Of course, all this money does not include the other untold billions being directed to the 400 plus start-ups in China, or the billions being invested by global auto suppliers like Bosch , Denso or ZF Friedrichshafen. 4 is already considered passé, at least for many potential EV customers in China. Modify ICE or Go EV?

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010.
