Even when there is an expressed interest in purchasing a battery electric or hybrid vehicle, it often did not turn into an actual purchase. Similarly, 22 percent expressed interest in a battery electric vehicle (BEV), but only 5 percent bought one. Arguments over how much range is needed are contentious.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Daimler/Mercedes Took over Daimler/Chrysler Sprinter PHEV program. Batteries not ready. Hyundai Partnering with Korean battery companies for hybrids.

If the hybrids engine starts operating, at higher speeds or throttle demands or lower battery levels, the control system automatically stops the external synthesis. When the powertrain control system switches the car back to running on the electric motor only, the synthesis controller instantaneously sets the system running again.
