The Volvo Penta-powered RT features two electric motors that have the potential to provide a total output of up to 360 kW (490 HP) and up to 50,000 N·m for all wheels. A two-speed gearbox ensures that the full torque is available even when starting off on hills, and that there is enough traction for steep gradients.

Jaguar has released details of the C-X16 concept ahead of its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Integrated into the eight-speed ZF gearbox is a motor generator which draws power from a 300V, 1.6 A dashboard display graphic indicates when the additional boost provided by the electric motor can be deployed.

In the prototype of a BMW 2 Series Active Tourer with plug-in hybrid system, the front wheels are driven by a three-cylinder gasoline engine and the rear wheels by an electric motor.
