One council member said that the new fees would depend on the size and weight of the vehicle, with one bemoaning the rise of “auto-besity,” the alarming upward trend of vehicle sizes in recent years. Electric vehicle owners will benefit from the lowest parking fees, while SUV owners will see higher chargers starting in January 2024.

Volkswagen Group America CEO Pablo Di Si told MotorTrend at the Chicago Auto Show this week, “It is not in the plans anymore.” The VW Amarok is based on Ford’s newest Ranger and is for sale in Europe, Asia, and Africa, but not North America. It’s currently sold in South America, but again, it won’t enter the US.

The Brazilian factory, scheduled to begin production in the first half of 2014, will have the capacity to produce up to 200,000 units annually of Nissan’s ‘V’ platform products for sale in Brazil. New product will prove central to the company’s ability to grow in the world’s fourth-largest auto market.

Brazil, the largest and most populous country in South America, was importing 80% of its oil and 40% of its foreign exchange was used to pay for that imported oil. The first such vehicles were introduced by Volkswagen in 2003, and by 2004, they accounted for more than 17% of the Brazilian auto market.

The car came straight to Omaha from the Detroit auto show. BYDs breakthrough all-electric E6, photographed at this years Detroit auto show. One told me he was appalled when he learned that Ford, which lost billions last year, had staged a gala at the Hotel George V during the Paris auto show. In between, they stopped in Omaha.
