GM will build the Cadillac ELR, a luxury coupe featuring extended-range electric technology, at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly, General Motors North America President Mark Reuss said Tuesday. The ELR is the production version of Cadillac’s Converj, a concept vehicle revealed at the North American International Auto Show in 2009.

The extended range electric vehicle, introduced as a concept at the Detroit auto show in January 2009, was said to be slated for production ( earlier post ). GreenCarReports cites an unnamed source at GM who says that the Cadillac Converj luxury plug-in coupe ( earlier post ) is now back in the GM product plan.

GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, at a conference of the Society of Automotive Analysts on the eve of the North American International Auto Show, announced that GM will produce the Cadillac Converj extended-range electric vehicle. The Detroit News previously reported it had received board approval for production.
