Petrol-only vehicles, and HEVs, were essentially flat YoY, and diesels were down by over a third. Petrol share looks set to regularly slide under 20% in Q3 or Q4 this year. Sweden’s Best Selling BEVs Tesla’s Model Y was (by far) the best selling BEV in March, and in fact the best selling of any auto, with a massive 3,202 units.

All of the overall auto market’s 9% YoY volume growth came from growth in plugins, leaving combined plugless vehicles with a volume drop, albeit with some shift in weighting from diesel to petrol. The Model Y has firmly toppled the previous regular leader, the Volvo XC40 (now in 4th). The Volvo XC40 comes in third.

This comes against a background of overall auto sales down by 2.0% For petrol-only vehicles, 2022 saw 42.3% Expect petrol’s rate of decline to accelerate in the coming years, once diesel sales have effectively ended. The biggest gainer was Geely (owner of Volvo and Polestar) which climbed from 9th to 5th.
