The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. (In In this paper PHEV refers solely to the long-range PHEV of 60 miles (100 km) electric-only range.) It is much more than that.

This research could provide sufficient information for the auto industry to make decisions about the marketability of hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2015. The Partnership’s budget for electrochemical energy technologies has increased as the importance of PHEV battery development has increased. Recommendation 4-3.

Millions will plug-in their electric vehicles (EV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and fuel cell vehicles (FCV) at night when electricity is cheap, then plug-in during the day when energy is expensive and sell those extra electrons at a profit. Smart Grid City will use a realtime high-speed two-way communication throughout the distribution grid.

Electric Cars and The Volt Can Transform America and the Auto Industry TODAY!!! While, I might personally like a plug-in hybrid that then goes to hybrid, to get the market ready for the technology, an EV range / dual-fuel car can work. In addition, I recently told someone about Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G). What Could They Do?

The true impact of electric vehicles should consider the make-up of the power grids where these cars will be used. Glad to see the variety & availability of electic commuter cars (vs hybrids & PHEV) is rising. My personal criteria for an EV is 80/80 MPH/miles range, but thats because drivers either go 80 or stopped around here.
