Dr. Martin Winterkorn said that Volkswagen would introduce its first electric vehicles based on the up! Winterkorn noted that the industry is experiencing its worst crisis in decades, with a collapse in the global market of 18% in the first half of this year. And above all, we have attractive and environmentally friendly vehicles.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. 1,000 pre-orders for small production runs in 2009 and 2010starting 4th quarter 2009.

GM says it is already looking ahead to the next generation of Volt-based vehicles — it unveiled the Cadillac Converj concept in January — and says costs will come down as the technology spreads to more models. GM is developing more fuel-efficient vehicles. My first car (and last GM vehicle) was a Chevette. Thats short-sighted.
