At 48 volts, a VTES electric supercharger will transform 7kW of battery power into a highly boosted charge of air for downsized gasoline and diesel engines. There will be no torque deficit or other tradeoffs from essential engine downsizing and higher gearing, which now dominates the development of internal combustion engines.

The FSV Program is midway through its second phase, designing optimized AHSS body structures for four proposed 2015-2020 year vehicles: battery electric (BEV); plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV), with both PHEV-20 and PHEV-40 powertrains; and fuel cell (FCV), with variants among the different powertrain types for four and five passengers vehicles.

This is a hybrid design, as in quite a few parts that are used are from a conventional ICE tractor. The flywheel is downsized to give a continuum between shift of gears, else unlike a ICE engine, when you take your leg off the pedal, the motor goes zero torque when you are re-engaging gears.
