Earlier in December, Cobalt International Energy announced a significant discovery at its Lontra well in the pre-salt play offshore Angola, in which BP holds a 30% interest. Estimated post-drill resource range for Lontra is 700 million to 1.1+ The discovery well encountered both a high liquids content gas interval and an oil interval.

BP is taking delivery of six new, state-of-the-art liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers to support its expanding global LNG portfolio, and to respond to growing demand for lower-carbon energy sources around the world. BP also participates in LNG projects in Australia, UAE, Indonesia, Trinidad and Angola.

The PFT process removes a portion of the heavy end of the barrel (asphaltenes) using less energy than would be required to remove the same heavy ends in a coker at an on-site upgrader, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This places oil sands within the same GHG intensity range as 45% of crude oil supplied to US refineries in 2012.).

The Saltend plant would purify rare earth sulfates, which would be imported from the company’s Longonjo mine in Angola. Angola is focused on diversifying its economy away from depending on oil, gas and diamonds, towards tourism, agriculture and value-added resource development.

Proved additions were also made in a diverse range of countries including the United States, Norway, Nigeria, Angola and Australia. Utilizing 31 December 2008 liquids and natural gas prices, proved reserves replacement was 2.0 billion oil-equivalent barrels, split approximately evenly between liquids and gas.
