The Times Online reports the British government's Department for Transport (DfT) has conducted a safety test on the all-electric Reva G-Whiz and found it wanting. Conservative MP Boris Johnson blogs "Banning the G-Wiz sums up Labour" in a most amusingly perverse Tory manner about the issue. They want to ban it, of course.

The car maker will develop the car in conjunction with Reva, the manufacturer of electric vehicles, best known for its G-Wiz models in the UK. After recently emerging from bankruptcy, GM is pursuing a policy of increasingly focusing on alternative fuel as part of its restructuring process.

Currently, only alternative fuel vehicles are exempt from the London Congestion Charge. Volvo believes the principal of hybrid cars being exempt from the charge is outdated.
