And for the first time ever it’s an all green Fiesta Weekend in Hermosa! It’s because all the buses and generators involved in the Fiesta will be fueled with clean-burning biodiesel, made from used vegetable oil donated by local restaurants Patrick Molloy’s, Sangria, and Café Boogaloo. Bravo, Mr. Montgomery.

Our neighborhood is called the “Hollywood Riviera&# because of its beautiful hillside homes with idyllic ocean views framed by palm trees. We both know that 20% of California’s electric power is used just to move water from the North down here to the South and all the other places it goes.

And I have never been more all now or totally happening. In this case for GRID Alternatives at a low income home in my old neighborhood in Long Beach, California. Thanks to them, a family’s electricity is now solar-powered. One of the great things about this display was how people all day long were touching the panels.

The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. (In In this paper PHEV refers solely to the long-range PHEV of 60 miles (100 km) electric-only range.) It is much more than that.

As our planet’s atmosphere overheats because the greenhouse gas firewall we’ve built by burning fossil fuels works so damn well, there is one secret weapon we can all still whip out if we want to fight back and try to save ourselves from frying. It’s all happening excruciatingly too slowly of course, and at the pace we’re currently on we are quite simply as doomed as doomed can be – but in the meantime it IS starting to happen and the first signs of momentum are now starting to show. Or waiting for do-nothing local governments to do the right thing.
