Hub motors are relatively affordable, low-maintenance, mass produced by the millions. Class 2 models also limit assisted speed to 20 mph.

Despite having seen them around for years, they were models I had long assumed would be marginally better than the atrocious three-wheeled motorcycles offered by Harley-Davidson.
