Even at around $30k, that’s a game-changing price for a crossover EV, and GM stuck to that price point over the next two years as we learned more about the Equinox, including pictures of its two-toned exterior. GM estimates that the FWD versions of the Equinox EV will deliver 319 miles of range on a single charge. Here are my thoughts.

One of the proposed changes to the federal EV tax credit that has flown a bit under the radar is also one of the most political and protectionist in nature. Effective January 1, 2022, electric vehicles with final assembly* (see definition at the end) in China would no longer qualify for IRC 30D (federal EV tax credit).

GM has been one of the pioneers of electric vehicles, introducing the General Motors EV1 back in 1996 and the groundbreaking Chevy Volt in 2010. What’s more, the Bolt EV is eligible for a variety of federal and state tax credits, rebates, and incentives that can potentially bring the price down to zero for qualifying drivers.

Tesla and GM both exceeded the state’s 200,000-unit sales cap on rebates. Buyers could still receive federal tax credits and local incentives if available. Yes, but I’m someone who is quite committed to the EV pathway, and able to afford the slightly higher ticket that most EVs carry. I view 2022 as the watershed year.
