The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released a detailed proposal designed to strengthen greenhouse gas emissions standards for light-duty vehicles. In 2019, fuel economy actually worsened, dropping slightly from 25.1 Vehicles with larger footprints are allowed to generate more CO2 than vehicles with smaller footprints.
