South Korea-based SK On (SKO), a global EV battery manufacturer, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Australia’s Global Lithium Resources to explore future business opportunities together in regard to stable supply of lithium. Incorporated in 2018, Global Lithium was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange last year.

Just three and a half years ago, Benchmark’s lithium-ion Battery Gigafactory Assessment (September 2018) reported Europe’s battery cell capacity to be at 120GWh by 2030—enough cells for 2.2 Samsung SDI (Hungary): 20 GWh. SK Innovation (Hungary): 7.5 million EVs. Now this planned annual capacity figure stands at 789.2

The only exception to this geographical intra-Europe rule was Ukraine, entering the Top 10 in 2016-2018 on the power of grassroots-driven lively market of second-hand EV imports, which seems to have stalled in 2019-2020. Globally ~14k Ioniq BEVs were sold. E-buses were deployed. So it’s roughly a ~10x factor in E-bus share in China’s favor.
