In September 2017 , Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico. The island gets on average nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, putting it on a par with Honolulu and Brisbane, Australia. During and after Maria, Casa Pueblo continued to operate a solar-based microgrid it had installed in 2017.
