The 2016 Chevrolet Volt with an electric range of 53 miles [ 2 ] is the first commercial car that almost qualifies as a PHEVLER. That is, PHEVLERs can store electricity whenever sun and wind-generated electricity is plentiful, and then can send stored power back into the smart grid at times when more electric power is needed.

In 2007, the administration announced a plan to replace the city’s 13,000 taxis with conventional hybrid cars by 2012. Under its plan, a manufacturer would receive a credit for 0 grams of carbon dioxide emission only for the first 200,000 electric vehicles it produces by 2016. That, however, has been blocked by the courts.
