Rechargeable membrane-less hydrogen bromine flow battery shows high power density

Green Car Congress

During discharge, liquid bromine is reduced to hydrobromic acid along the lower solid graphite electrode, and hydrogen is oxidized at the upper porous electrode. MIT researchers have engineered a new rechargeable, membrane-less hydrogen bromine laminar flow battery with high power density. Credit: Braff et al. Click to enlarge.

Reaction Design introduces model fuel library resulting from work of Model Fuels Consortium

Green Car Congress

Major liquid fuel classes represented in the library include hydrogen; n-alkanes; iso-alkanes; 1-ring aromatics; 2-ring aromatics; cycloalkanes/naphthenes; olefins; oxygenated fuels; and soot precursors and emissions pathways. The MFC applied this concept of surrogate fuels to develop both fossil-based and bio-based fuel models.

Researchers develop four-step catalytic process to produce petroleum refinery feedstocks from biomass sugars

Green Car Congress

This process involved: (1) dehydration of carbohydrates into furfural and 5- hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF); (2) aldol condensation reaction of furfural and HMF with acetone; (3) low-temperature hydrogenation step; and (4) high-temperature hydrodeoxygenation. Hydrogenation of the step 2 products in the presence of a Ru/Al 2 O 3 catalyst.
