It’s been a wild ride for Aptera, but things may be coming to a successful conclusion. That means back before 2010 when it was going to be a hybrid car with a very similar shape. Things fell apart for Aptera 1.0, For those who’ve been longtime readers, we’ve been following them from the beginning.

Given the countless rumors posted widely over the internet, Aptera has finally set the record straight in the press release below. It is my sincere hope that funding comes to Aptera sooner, rather than later, from both private and public funds.

The rebooted Aptera Motors has teamed with Elaphe Propulsion Technologies on a long-range, volume production electric vehicle powered by in-wheel motors. Aptera, initially known as Accelerated Composites, formed in 2005 to bring highly efficient, three-wheeled vehicles to the market ( earlier post ), went out of business in 2011.

Independent electric car manufacturer, Aptera, has unveiled a new version of its all-electric three-wheel vehicle, the 2e. The unveiling of the 2010 model came as the California-based manufacturer gave a state of union address to explain why the firm was behind schedule on plans to bring the model to full production.

I heard today that they expect to have 5,000 Nissan EVs for sale by the end of 2010. Tesla will be a common brand, with several well received models in all price ranges, and there will be a few proud owners of the original Apteras zipping along the freeways among all manner of new plug-in cars, trucks and even SUVs.
