The BMW i8 plug-in hybrid ( earlier post ) was named the World Green Car at the World Car Awards in New York. Its battery-electric sibling, the BMW i3, took the same award in 2014. The BMW i8 was also one of the finalists in the category World Luxury Car at the World Car Awards.

The Axon Automotive PHEV. UK-based Axon Automotive, a spin-off from Cranfield University, previewed a pre-production plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of its lightweight city car at the Milton Keynes Science Festival. The Axon car is a multipurpose vehicle built for two adults plus luggage.

Paradox 1 - Soot: There's an apparent emissions paradox with plug-in hybrids (PHEV): Driving longer distances on battery power means more cold starts as the internal combustion engine (ICE) stops and starts up again after the batteries deplete. A supplemental electric heater comes right to mind. Cold starts mean more pollution.
