Toshiba Corporation is taking its SCiB rechargeable battery business from Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation (TISS) to make it an independent business unit within Toshiba. By promoting expansion of business opportunities Toshiba aims for sales of ¥400 billion (US$3.6 billion) in 2030.

The i-MiEV is based on Mitsubishis i line of micro-cars which are quite popular in Japan. The car is powered by a 330V 16KWh Li Ion battery pack from GS Yuasa Corporation which drives a 47KW Permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 133 foot pounds of torque. The cars are also being fleet tested in Japan.
