Because the exhaust system transports only water, it can be made of lightweight polymer. The first technology demonstrator was the compact A2H2 in 2004, which was already equipped with a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEM). The actual bursting pressure is much higher still and far exceeds the legal requirements.
