California ARB holding two workshops on developing measure to reduce emissions from TRUs

Green Car Congress

At the upcoming workshop, ARB staff will discuss preliminary concepts developed since the first workshop in April 2016. TRUs and TRU gensets emit diesel PM, NO x , greenhouse gases and other pollutants. ARB adopted the TRU Airborne Toxic Control Measure in 2004, with amendments in 2010 and 2011, to reduce PM emissions from TRU units.

High Performance Computing key enabler for accelerating development of high efficiency engines

Green Car Congress

Low emission, low temperature engine concepts of the future operate in regimes where combustion is poorly understood. In an effort to reliably predict efficiency and pollutant emissions for new engines and fuels, computer simulations are used to study fundamental turbulence-chemistry interactions. Click to enlarge. Sandia study finds fuel cell barges may be attractive lower-cost cold-ironing solution for some types of vessels at some ports

Green Car Congress

Basic concept of a fuel cell barge. Auxiliary power to docked ships, usually provided by on-board diesel engines, is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, accounting for one-third to one-half of the in-port emissions attributed to ocean-going vessels. Soot and Spin: Two Plug-in Paradoxes

Plugs and Cars

Cold starts mean more pollution. The catalytic converter that keeps the ICE from being a gross polluter in conventional cars and hybrids however, isn't kept warm by the continual embrace of an ever-churning engine in a hybrid with all-electric range. Third-party and DIY converters can't muck with every system on a car.
