In a pre-response to that speech, having successfully advocated for plug-in hybrids like the forthcoming Chevy Volt, we propose that the President follow that speech up with a “realistic and conservative” roadmap to halve our oil use in 10 years. Oil is holding us all hostage, economically and physically. Finally, it’s time to begin.

Volvo has also emphasized friction reduction in its VEA family, using a variety of techniques including improved roundness of the cylinder bore, which results in very low tangential piston ring forces, a variable oil pump and new low viscosity engine oil. How does this sound: 100+ MPG in a regular vehicle? For people looking for the most effective way to end our addiction to oil, PHEVs have made sense because carmakers can build them now, with todays technology and using todays infrastructure. At $3 for a gallon of gas, driving a non-hybrid car costs 8-20 cents/mile (depending on MPG).

The Think City was short-lived in the States with production halting in 2002 after just 1005 cars had been assembled. Several global indicators on the supply of oil and the known carbon pollution environmental damages its caused all lead us to find cleaner ways of transportation. We have oil! safety requirements.
