Kalghatgi and his group explored both the use of low-cetane fuels and exhaust gas recirculation (SAE 2007-01-0006). SAE 2001-01-0655), and optimizing fuel reactivity (Bessonette et al., SAE 2007-01-0191). Here, the potential for fuel economy improvement would even be larger than in diesel truck engines.
