The concept behind V2G had gained traction in the late 1990s after California’s landmark zero-emission-vehicle (ZEV) mandate went into effect and compelled automakers to commercialize electric cars. Nissan estimates—based on the findings of AR4—that the CO 2 emissions of all new vehicles in 2050 would need to be reduced by 90% compared to the 2000 level.
