Honda came in second, with Toyota, Nissan, and Volkswagen in a three-way tie for third place. Stronger tailpipe emissions standards have led to an 87% reduction in smog-forming tailpipe emissions from the average car or truck since 2000, while global warming emissions from the average vehicle have decreased by nearly 20% percent since 1998.

Japanese car manufacturer Nissan continues to make progress on its Nissan Green Program 2010 mid-term environmental plan and has now announced an update in its status - along with the announcement of a clean-diesel engine for the Japanese market. Now it will introduce a clean-diesel engine into the Japanese market in spring 2010.

Nissan Motor Co., provided an update on its progress under the Nissan Green Program 2010 (NGP 2010) mid-term environmental plan.
