The Navy showcased a flight test of the Green Hornet, an F/A-18 Super Hornet multirole fighter jet powered by a 50:50 biofuel blend, on Earth Day, 22 April. Flight of the Green Hornet. The Green Hornet runs on a 50/50 blend of conventional jet fuel and a synthetic paraffinic kerosene derived from camelina.

Last fall, we conducted an F/A-18 Hornet jet engine test at Pax River, running on a biofuel blend made from camelina, a plant related to mustard that can be grown throughout the United States. Pretty soon, we’ll move beyond these ground tests and conduct flights with our very own Green Hornet.
