PowerGenix, the manufacturer of high performance, rechargeable Nickel-Zinc (NiZn) batteries ( earlier post ), has entered an exclusive agreement with PSI Acquisition, LLC to supply battery cells for UP-Stealth, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for the traffic industry.

The Sitras HES hybrid energy storage system consists of two energy-storing components: the Sitras MES mobile energy storage unit (double-layer capacitor, DLC) and a nickel-metal hydride battery. The energy storage units can also be recharged on routes with OCLs or stationary charging stations, for example at stops.

The high voltage systems pose little to no risk of electric shock, either while driving or recharging. The nickel-metal hydride used in EV batteries is in maintenance-free sealed cells, so nothing gets in or out. THE BOTTOM LINE. EV MYTH THREE: I can’t get my EV wet. The extra lead-acid battery pack can be recharged externally at night from the Prius owner’s household 110 VAC source in a home garage. By not employing the gasoline engine to recharge the lead-acid pack, the “electric-only” range of the Nickel-Metal Hydride battery pack is extended from one mile to about 10 miles.

The customer will only pay a monthly fee about $240 (US Dollars) which includes a full maintenance service agreement; carbon offset payments and in some countries even all electricity used, and insurance. Today we could be using lead-acid EVs, lead-carbon-acid EVs, or nickel metal hydride or lithium-ion hybrids.
