BMW unveiled the BMW i8 2+2 plug-in hybrid sports car ( earlier post ) today at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The i8—the first plug-in hybrid vehicle from the BMW Group—will have a manufacturer’s suggest retail price of $135,925 (including destination and handling) when it arrives in US showrooms in spring of 2014.

The BMW XM is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system comprising a V8 gasoline engine and electric motor that delivers combined fuel consumption of 1.6 – 1.5 l/100 km [147 – 157 mpg US] in the WLTP cycle; combined electric power consumption of 30.1 – 28.9 The BMW XM sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 kWh of usable energy.

A plug-in hybrid drivetrain will be on offer, also, making Passat Volkswagen’s third model with a PHEV option. A plug-in hybrid model will also be offered, with potential to travel 31 miles (50 km) powered by a 9.9 Plug-in hybrid. The new Passat is the third plug-in hybrid from Volkswagen, after the XL1 and Golf GTE.

Clean Fleet Report has tested many Toyota hybrid models and know this fuel economy number can easily be topped, getting in the 40+ mpg range. With the change comes an increase in horsepower from 139 to 169, faster 0-60 mph by two seconds and fuel economy increased to 31 mpg city/40 highway/34 combined. Corolla Cross Hybrid.

Hyundai began the US rollout of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) ( earlier post ) and its conventional hybrid sibling (HEV) with a series of media drives in California—one of the main markets for the PHEV, which offers some 24 miles (38.6 Combined fuel economy (mpg).
