The coveted Chevy Volt battery contract appears to be going to a unit of South Korea’s biggest battery maker. It has been designed to run for up to 40 miles on a single charge of its lithium-ion batteries and then to keep running on juice provided by a 1.4iter, four-cylinder gas engine that serves as a power generator.

Further, experts say EV owners must expect to pay less to recharge than they do to fill up with unleaded, regardless of the source or speed of that electricity. Tesla has also begun selling CCS adapters in South Korea , and has promised to "soon" bring those roughly $250 adapters to America.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. South Korea did that and Australia is going to be doing that. The car is expected to cost around $40,000.
