When it comes to reviews, the 2023 Toyota bZ4X has taken it on its oddly-shaped chin. Compare the bZ to the brand’s own re-done Prius – the new Prius has flaws but it’s generally packaged much better. Yes, the bZ is an EV and the Prius is not, but overall, the latter is a more intriguing proposition than the former.

The standard hybrid, with CVT and sans turbo, can manage around 33 mpg, give or take depending on front- or all-wheel drive configuration. That power and its 273 lb-ft of torque, Jeep said, intentionally duplicates the specs of the standard 3.6-liter 54k MSRP.

Standardization of battery shape and chemistry is another consideration that gives one pause. Also, until standardization of connectors becomes fully implemented, EV owners may have to carry an assortment of adapters to be able to plug in to chargers from different suppliers. One of the main drawbacks to charge stations is speed.
