Earlier this year, new CAFE standards require an industry-wide fleet average of approximately 49 mpg for passenger cars and light trucks in model year 2026. Work from home, the rise of ecommerce, and higher gas prices for an extended period could also reduce average annual vehicle miles traveled in the US.

But it is a price that must be paid, and GM should be commended for remaining committed to the Volt. Not really sure where all the money is going, but it seems like the Volt is already over-priced and under performing.
