Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will begin leasing approximately 200 plug-in versions of its third-generation Prius ( earlier post ) equipped with lithium-ion battery packs in Japan starting at the end of this year. The leases will be to designated users such as government ministries, local governments and corporations.

As of 20 July, participating governments include China, France, Germany, Japan, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. EVI is a government-led global initiative that will collaborate with relevant industry, academic, and end-user stakeholders to scale-up electric vehicle sales.

The plug-in version of the third-generation Toyota Prius will be open to leasing at the end of this year in Japan. Around 200 versions of the vehicle, equipped with a lithium-ion battery, will be made available and designated to government ministries, local governments and corporations.

The all-electric range of the Prius Plug-In (23 km) will cover more than 50% of distances driven by single cars each day in Japan, according to Toyota.
