In an event combining a first-customer ceremony and a media drive, Tustin (California) Hyundai’s Dealer Principal, John Patterson, handed over the keys to Hyundai’s first mass-produced Tucson Fuel Cell crossover ( earlier post ) to Timothy Bush, the first Hyundai Fuel Cell customer, with Hyundai executives in attendance.

A new project launched by the US Department of Energy (DOE) and led by Sandia National Laboratories and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will work in support of H 2 USA, the public private partnership introduced in 2013 by the Energy Department and industry stakeholders to address the challenge of hydrogen infrastructure.

Purchasers of new Hyundai NEXO SUVs will receive hydrogen fueling cards with a combined maximum value of $13,000 to be used during the first three years of vehicle ownership. The NEXO Blue model has an estimated range of 380 miles, 115 more than the Tucson Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle.

Three quarters (75%) of Canadians “agree” (32% strongly/44% somewhat) that they would “ like to have a car that is not powered by traditional gasoline ”, while only one in four (25%) “disagree” (7% strongly/18% somewhat) that they would like to drive such a car. Just two in ten (20%) “disagree” (3% strongly/17% somewhat).

The NEXO can be refueled in as little as five minutes, allowing a consumer lifestyle very similar to a comparable gasoline-powered SUV in terms of range and refueling speed.
