The US Department of Transportation (DOT) is awarding $100 million in Economic Recovery Act funding to 43 transit agencies for projects to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from both vehicles and facilities. The Federal Transit Administration reviewed more than $2 billion in applications for these funds.

A battery powered, all electric utility truck with an aerial device has been produced by Smith Electric Vehicles US Corporation in association with Altec Industries Inc. The company will provide test data to Smith Electric and Altec for the creation of the production model. The full battery recharge takes six-eight hours.

kWh Li-ion pack enabling an electric range of up to 15 miles (24 km) at speeds of up to 62 mph (100 km/h), according to Toyota. Maximum electric range is 15 miles. The engine also uses an electrically driven air conditioning compressor and water pump to reduce mechanical losses. L/100km equivalent and 4.8 L/100km, respectively.
