These results indicate that coal and oil are the energy sources leading to most emissions, and that hydro, wind, and nuclear are the energy sources leading to least emissions. Natural gas. The US Department of Transportation (DOT) is awarding $100 million in Economic Recovery Act funding to 43 transit agencies for projects to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from both vehicles and facilities. The Federal Transit Administration reviewed more than $2 billion in applications for these funds.

However, building more coal and gas power plants to make miles for transport is counter-productive if the game plan is to reduce carbon output. At that rate, the cost to operate an electric vehicle is 2 cents per mile. Unfortunately, they don’t.
