Bloom Energy and Idaho National Laboratory to test use of nuclear generation to power solid-oxide electrolyzer for H2 production

Green Car Congress

Bloom Energy announced an agreement with Idaho National Laboratory (INL) to test the use of nuclear energy to produce clean hydrogen through Bloom Energy’s solid-oxide, high-temperature electrolyzer. First announced in July 2020, Bloom Energy’s electrolyzer converts water (or steam) into hydrogen and oxygen.

Taking the Long Way Home From Alaska

Baua Electric

The highway formed the heart of a family road trip I took last September from Alaska to Idaho, passing through the Yukon, British Columbia and Alberta, in Canada, along the way. Reassuringly, our next stop, Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park , offered camping behind an electric bear fence (26 dollars a night).

General Atomics launches bid for DOE small modular reactor program with EM2

Green Car Congress

General Atomics (GA) is developing a small modular reactor (SMR) and has recently submitted a proposal to the DOE SMR initiative to help bring the reactor to market. Only unusable fission products would be removed and stored. In an EM 2 fuel cycle, this material can satisfy US energy demands for centuries, GA says.

Using the PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) to Transition Society Seamlessly and Profitably From Fossil Fuel to 100% Renewable Energy

Green Car Congress

The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. (In In this paper PHEV refers solely to the long-range PHEV of 60 miles (100 km) electric-only range.) It is much more than that.
