The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) plans to purchase seven Mack LR Electric refuse models, which will operate in each of the city’s boroughs. The Mack LR Electric is equipped with Mack’s integrated electric powertrain and will help New York City and DSNY achieve its zero-emissions goals.

Mayor Bloomberg announces the addition of 70 new electric vehicles. New York City is adding 70 electric vehicles to its fleet: 50 new Chevrolet Volts, 10 fully electric Ford Transit Connect cargo vans, and 10 new fully electric Navistar E-star utility trucks.

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has selected the Nissan NV200 as the exclusive taxi of New York City for a decade, beginning in late 2013. The City now will enter into final negotiations with Nissan to make the NV200 the first taxicab specially built for use in New York City.

Update: The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services also confirmed to Teslarati that it will purchase 250 Model 3 units for the New York City fleet. The New York City DCAS only confirmed the purchase of the Mach-E vehicles in its press release.

The Mack LR Electric model, Mack Trucks’ first fully electric Class 8 vehicle ( earlier post ), is now in serial production at Mack’s Lehigh Valley Operations (LVO) facility in Macungie, Pennsylvania. DSNY recently announced their plan to purchase seven LR Electric models that will operate in the city’s five boroughs.
