Tesla has restarted the installation of the Magic Dock by building new Superchargers fitted with it in Texas, making it the third region the automaker has brought the technology to. As early as January, there was speculation that Tesla was beginning to build the Magic Dock-equipped Supercharger posts and install them in U.S.

Tesla started rolling out the Magic Dock earlier this year and started installing it on a number of Superchargers in California and New York. Earlier this month, they finally made their way to Texas, near Fort Worth. The Magic Dock allows non-Tesla EV owners to use Tesla’s Supercharger Network for charging.

Our Texas-based group is focusing on three of these issues: autonomy, communications, and standards. On the standards front, we are part of an IEEE working group, P1920.2 , developing standards for vehicle-to-vehicle communications. The working group plans to release the draft standard by the end of 2023.

Engineered at the new Westport technical facility in Plymouth Michigan, WiNG systems will be installed and the trucks will be ready to roll when they reach authorized Ford dealers. They are designed to meet both EPA 2012 and CARB 2012 standards. The F-250 and F-350 pickup trucks are expected to ship in the second quarter of 2012.
