One of the proposed changes to the federal EV tax credit that has flown a bit under the radar is also one of the most political and protectionist in nature. Effective January 1, 2022, electric vehicles with final assembly* (see definition at the end) in China would no longer qualify for IRC 30D (federal EV tax credit).

California’s plug-in vehicle sales tally is impressive: 663,014 battery electrics (62.9%). If you’re adding up the numbers that 1,054,095 electric vehicles since the state began counting in 2011. The California mix for 2021 was interesting, with many of a few vehicles and a few of many. Still turning in max EV miles.

However, because of the duty cycle used by the Postal Service, which generally amounts to only about 18-20 miles per day on a fixed route, these vehicles are being built without the range extender seen on the concept. The Postal Service will be using the vehicles for whatever applications they have in different regions of the country.

Basically, the external ESS is a system that produces artificial vehicle noise. This is supposed to help pedestrians recognize the sound of an oncoming vehicle, even if its not making any noise. Alternatively, may we suggest the sound of the neighborhood ice cream truck? We always seem to hear that one coming from a mile away.
